How to go from Schiphol Airport to the
University of Nijmegen:
By train:
The railway station is in the airport itself.
Buy a train ticket to Nijmegen Heijendaal.
The ticket counters of Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) are in the arrival hall
of the airport. They do accept credit cards there but not in most of the
other railway stations.
Take a train to Duivendrecht (this is not the
direction Amsterdam Central Station). Trains run about six times per hour.
Duivendrecht is the third or fourth stop.
Change in Duivendrecht to the intercity Utrecht-Arnhem(-Nijmegen).
The platform is upstairs from where you arrive. Once per hour the train
runs through to Nijmegen Central Station. Once per hour (the other half
hour) you have to change trains in Arnhem.
Follow the instructions in
"How to reach us by train".
By car:
Exiting the airport will
put you on highway A4. Go North, direction Amsterdam and Utrecht.
At the first highway junction
change to highway A9, direction Utrecht.
Highway A9 will lead you to highway A2, just follow the signs
"Utrecht".
In Utrecht change to highway A12/E35 going east towards Arnhem and
Oberhausen (Germany). The interchange is called
"Knooppunt Oudenrijn".
Follow highway A12/E35 until interchange
"Knooppunt Grijsoord". Here you follow the signs
"Nijmegen". That puts you on highway A50.
Follow signs Nijmegen. This
will bring you to town via highways A50 and A73 (E31). The Nijmegen exit
will put you on the "Neerbossche Weg". See map below.
Follow the instructions in
"How to reach us by car".
How to reach us by train:
Take any train to Nijmegen Central Station. Ask your travel agent
or your railway ticket counter for information which trains to take.
There are several online railway time tables available on the world-wide
web:
Cheapest way:
From Nijmegen Central Station
you can take a "stoptrein" (regional train) to
Nijmegen Heijendaal. Heijendaal is the first stop on the line
Boxmeer-Venlo. Make sure you don't take the "sneltrein"
(fast train) since it doesn't halt at Heijendaal.
The stoptrein to Nijmegen Heijendaal departs either from platform 1b
or from platform 35, which is beyond (south of) platform 1b.
From Nijmegen Heijendaal it is a 5-minute walk to the Science Faculty
building. For a campus map see further down
on this page. On the top of the map you see in yellow the railway
"Station Heijendaal".
Easiest way:
Take a "train taxi". A ticket
(for € 4) can be obtained at the ticket counter of the railways,
either at the station where you buy your train ticket (ask for
a train taxi ticket in Nijmegen) or at Nijmegen station.
Right in front of the main
station, there is an stop for the train taxis (marked by a sign). If there
is a taxi, give the ticket and our address to the driver. The taxi will
usually wait until there are 4 passengers and then leave. If there is no
taxi present, it may take some minutes (but hopefully not more than 15).
Regular taxis are also available, costing about € 9.
How to reach us by car:
The directions are almost independent from where you enter town.
Follow either of the signs
"Universiteit", "Ziekenhuizen" or "Radboud".
This will direct you to the University campus.
The Science Faculty building is on the Heijendaalse Weg.
Once close to the campus follow the blue "P9" signs
which will lead you to the parking spaces closest to the Science Faculty
building. Usually it is no problem to find a parking space.
Walk to the Science Faculty building.
For a campus map see further down on this page.
On the top of the map you see in yellow the railway
"Station Heijendaal".
NOTE: At the moment part of the campus is a construction
site for the new buildings of the Science Faculty. The map of
the University campus below is outdated, but can be used for
general orientation. Please take a look at the
current map of the campus (Science Faculty
part). The main entrance of the Science Faculty (building A1
on the map) is now on the rear side of the building.
Note: the north entrance to the campus (on the
Heijendaalseweg, where a road crossing is under construction)
can only be used by pedestrians now and for all other traffic
the main entrance to the campus is the south entrance indicated
"Ingang vanaf Brakkenstein" on the
map.
