Starting ISIS

Two methods are currently offered for accessing the ISIS databases:

Starting ISIS via the SAMSAM Menu (using X-windows emulation)

ISIS can be started through the SAMSAM menu system.
This option requires X graphics, so you must have either an X workstation or a PC/Mac with an X emulator. Note that the REFLIB button in the SAMSAM menu causes ISIS/Base to be called with automatic opening of the REFLIB database.

Starting ISIS using the local PC-client

When the Internet connection is slow, ISIS is preferably run via the local PC-client. In that case, ISIS/Draw can be installed on the PC and after a query is constructed the connection with the remote database is setup.
This has the following advantages:

There is much less data transfer over the Internet
One can easily print the hits found on the local printer attached to the PC.
If you already have existing ISIS/Draw files you can easily import them and use them for constructing queries.
