There are many genomic databases for the several organisms we
study. A few organisms, like humans and fruitflies, have quite a few more than
one! Happily, this reflects more a diversity of special interests and
initiatives, rather than an abundance of competition. Unhappily, the number
of databases, and the variety of interfaces to them, poses an overwhelming
burden of learning on the casual user.
One solution to this diversity of database access tools has been to devise
versions that can be used via the World Wide Web. Once comfortable using
the WWW, most of us can get adequate results from our queries in
acceptably short times - usually only minutes.
Below we've compiled a list (constantly growing, with your help) of all the
genetic and genomic databases accessible through the World Wide Web. They
are arranged alphabetically by Genus species
(plus
a common name index) with small descriptive phrases next to those of
special interest.
