Welcome at the Workgroup Bioinformatics of the KNCV

The goal of the Workgroup Bioinformatics, which is linked to both the KNCV and the NVBMB, is to stimulate the bioinformatics research and education in The Netherlands. The workgroup wishes to achieve this by means to:
  • Focus on national strength within the field of bioinformatics
  • Set up information programs regarding bioinformatics
  • Offer a discussion platform for all information relevant and for all people interested in the field of bioinformatics
  • Organize meetings and symposiums
  • Improve networks between universities, technical schools, research institutes, and industry
  • Improve contacts with international bioinformatics organizations
The target group of the workgroup is larger than chemists and molecular biologists only: also medics, fysicists, informaticians and mathematicians, working in this field, are welcome.

BENELUX BIOINFORMATICS CONFERENCE BBC2006

"Bioinformatics for Food and Health"

October 17 & 18 - Wageningen, The Netherlands

About BBC2006: The Benelux Bioinformatics Conference is a two-day international conference about bioinformatics. Since bioinformatics is such a diverse field, the main goal of the BBC is to improve the communication between different bioinformatics research groups (at both universities, technical schools, research institutes and industry) within the Benelux, to help them profile their research internationally and to provide an opportunity for interdisciplinary networking.

Both days will feature international keynote speakers presenting the state of the art in bioinformatics reseach. Local research breakthroughs will be presented in contributed talks. Finally, participants will be able to learn about emerging research and network with colleagues during the poster sessions. More information will be available at http://www.cmbi.ru.nl/bbc2006 in due time.

Start/discussiebijeenkomst Verkenning Biowiskunde

April 18 - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Invited speakers will open the conference in the morning, followed by workshops and poster presentations in the afternoon. The conference will end with a party with live music! More information about the programme schedule and registration details can be found at http://www.nbic.nl/conference.

ERA-NET Plant Genomics launches the first Call for collaborative research proposals

On February 1st 2006 the ERA-NET Plant Genomics (ERA-PG) network launched its first call for collaborative research proposals, Structuring Plant Genomics Research in Europe. For this first call twelve European co-funding partners from eleven countries agreed on a joint investment of approximately . 30 M in plant genomics research.

The ambition of the call is to increase synergies between research teams around Europe and to enhance the quality as well as the competitiveness of plant genomics research in Europe. In order to achieve the ambitions of ERA-PG, both scientifically and in terms of funding agency cooperation, the call will have overarching themes, which address the common priorities identified in the ERA-PG Planning Workshop (June 2005, Norwich) and the ERA-PG survey described in the report .Plant Genomics Research in Europe. (2005). The topics are also clearly in alignment with the objectives of other strategic groups in plant science currently active in Europe, including the Technology Platform, .Plants for the Future..

The call is divided into two Sub Calls. One is focussing on broad, publicly funded, research in plant genomics. The other emphasizes the need for application oriented research and future European public-private partnerships in plant genomics.

There will be a two-stage procedure for joint applications; pre-proposals and full proposals; and accordingly a two-stage review and selection procedure. The due date for submission of the pre-proposals is 16th of March 2006. Full proposals should be submitted on 29th of June 2006 at the latest. Envisaged starting date of the collaborative projects is between December 2006 and March 2007.

Information about the ERA-PG network, funding modalities and research themes of the first Joint Call can be retrieved from the Call Notice, which is available on the ERA-PG website. Further details can be obtained from the Call Secretariat or one of the National Call Coordinators of the contributing organisations. A list with contact details is included in the Call Notice.
